Del Norte County, United States

UC Cooperative Extension-Humboldt/Del Norte is offering an opportunity for you and your family to learn more about where our local food and dairy is produced. This one-day tour series will take place on Sunday, September 14 from 11:00 a.m.—4:00 p.m. and will feature three unique Del Norte farms within the Crescent City vicinity. Don’t miss this rare chance to visit two local farms and a local dairy and explore what makes our region so special.  Join us in a convoy and visit one, two, or all three farms!

The Cooperative Extension’s farm tours are free, but since space is limited, pre-registration is required. For more details and to register call the UC Cooperative Extension at 707-445-7351 or 464-4711. Folks can also visit

Stop #1 Annie Mack’s Family Produce, Crescent City, 11—12:00 p.m.

Light refreshments provided (this stop only).

Our first stop will be at a small-scale market garden that utilizes intensive farming practices that rely on hand and light power tools. Main crops include the production of wheatgrass, microgreens, and specialty greens. Witness firsthand how productive small-scale farming can be! We will also learn about using greenhouses, hoop houses, water saving techniques, vertical farming, and more.

Stop #2 Alexandre Family EcoDairy Farms, Crescent City (near Smith River), 12:30—1:30 p.m.

For our second stop, we will visit a family run dairy farm that produces organic milk in Crescent City, Smith River, and Ferndale, California.  The farm is pasture grass-based, grazing organic cows on organic pasture all year long.  They also have organic eggs from pastured poultry, grass-fed beef, and pastured pork. Come tour their Crescent City dairy operation and get a chance to see the maternity barn, baby calves, milking barn, baby chickens, and pasture poultry operation.

Stop #3 Ocean Air Farms, Fort Dick, 2:00—4:00 p.m.

Our tour will conclude at Ocean Air’s Annual Fall Shin Digg, and will include a farm tour, hay ride, music, and food! Ocean air farms is a 15-acre farm just north of Crescent City that grows  organic vegetables and raises dairy goats, Icelandic sheep, some cows, and chickens. They operate a Community Supported Agriculture program (CSA), and sell at local restaurants as well as local Farmer’s Markets that serve both Brookings and Crescent City.
